Life Sciences and Technology

School of Life Sciences and Technology of Tongji University was originally derived from the Department of Biology of National Tongji University who was founded in 1937 and reestablished in 1996 as School of Life Sciences and Medical Engineering, and finally renamed as School of Life Sciences and Technology in 2002. The school is a young interdisciplinary school, with around 250 undergraduate, 250 graduate students and 66 faculties, offering diverse courses for Bachelors Degrees, Masters, PhD programs and Postdoctoral training programs. In 2007, as Dr. Gang Pei became the president of Tongji Universtiy, his impact in life sciences attracted many oversea young scientists to join the school. Now there are 24 professors and 23 associate professors for teaching and/or research, among whom there are 2 Members of Chinese Academy of Science, 1 Yangtze Fund Scholar and 3 principle investigators of "973" project. There are 3 departments and 4 institutes in the school. The school has developed rapidly in bioinformatics, model organisms, stem cell and epigenetic and established extensive international research cooperation and academic exchange programs with different countries including the United States, France, Germany, Britain, Japan, etc. Life Sciences and Technology
