2018 Annual Academic Conference and Young Scholars Forum of Shanghai Botanical Society at Tongji

2018 Annual Academic Conference and Young Scholars Forum of Shanghai Botanical Society were held at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, on June 9th. As one of the activities in Shanghai Science and Technology Forum 2018, the conference was organized by Tongji University and sponsored by Shanghai Botanical Society with support from Shanghai Science and Technology Association.. About 210 participants from 20 universities with intensive studies on botany and specialized botany research institutes participated in the conference, including Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Shanghai Botanical Garden.

As special guests, LIN Hongxuan, a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and CHEN Xiaoyong, Dean of the School of Ecological and Environmental Sciences, East China Normal University, delivered keynote speeches entitled Mechanism of Genetic Control in Rice Yield and Qualities, and Ecological Effects of Habitat Fragmentation.

A total of 76 papers had been submitted to the organizing committee before the conference. Seventeen young scholars were invited to give presentations at the conference after careful selection by the committee. Focusing on research achievements of particular subjects, the seventeen presentations impressed the audience with their substantial research results. Furthermore, these presentations with a wide range of topics and deep exploration, successfully reflected the booming development in plant taxonomy, phytogeography, phytoecology, pharmacology of plants, plant molecular genetics, landscape architecture botany, and other botanical studies in Shanghai. Finally, as a result of the panel review, seven young scholars won the first prize, and ten the second prize for their papers delivered at the conference.

In addition, Plant Science Annual Report 2017 was published at the conference, which elaborated research frontiers and the latest development in botany from different perspectives.
