XU Houze from CAS Gives Academic Presentation at Tongji on Invitation

Mr. XU Houze, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and outstanding alumnus of Tongji University, paid a visit to the College of Surveying and Geo-Informatics (CSGI), Tongji University by invitation on the afternoon of May 10th, and gave a high-end presentation on the theme of Reflections on Elevation System. Leaders, faculty members, undergraduates, and graduate students from CSGI attended the presentation.

During the presentation, Mr. XU elaborated his profound reflections on the elevation system in simple terms of the definitions of the elevation system and elevation datum, the reasons for the feasibility of normal elevation systems, the origin of geoid, the calculation of height anomaly and its accuracy, leveling methods, the Theory of Molodensky, and elevation problems in satellite positioning systems. Afterwards, XU had an enthusiastic discussion with the attendees and answered their questions in detail. In addition, he emphasized that people needed to remain respectful, focused, accurate, and industrious in their scientific research.
